Rent Help in Fort Worth: Who to Call When You’re Behind
Behind on rent in Fort Worth? Call before you get a court notice — most local help works best while you still have time on the lease, and several programs can pay a landlord directly. Here is the order to work in.
1. The county’s rent help: Center for Transforming Lives
Center for Transforming Lives runs Tarrant County’s rent and utility assistance. Call 817-607-8137. They took over the county’s rent help in November 2025, so if an older flyer or website gave you a different office, this is the current one. Expect to show ID, your lease, proof of income, and the amount you owe.
2. The City of Fort Worth: Community Action Partners
The city’s CAP office helps Fort Worth residents with rent and energy bills: 817-392-2276. If one program is out of funds, ask the same office what else is open — funds open and close month to month.
3. Housing you can stay in longer
Fort Worth Housing Solutions (817-333-3400) runs the long-term housing programs. The main Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waitlist is not open right now — but several property-based waitlists open November 1–5, 2026 on the Housing Solutions portal, and those lists are how most families actually get in. Our guide walks through it: 3 housing waitlists opening November 1–5.
If you already have a court date
Do not skip the hearing. Call Center for Transforming Lives anyway and say you have a date — eviction-prevention help often moves faster with one. And call 2-1-1 as a backup to find church and charity funds in your ZIP code.
