The Fort Worth voucher waitlist is closed. Here’s the rent help that’s still open

Let’s say it plainly, because a lot of websites don’t: the Housing Choice Voucher Wait List at Fort Worth Housing Solutions is NOT currently accepting applications. That’s from FWHS itself. If a site tells you the list is open right now, it’s out of date.

The good news: a closed waitlist doesn’t mean closed doors. Rent and utility help in Fort Worth is still moving through four other channels — here’s each one, with the number to call.

1. FWHS affordable apartments and project-based units

Fort Worth Housing Solutions runs affordable apartments across the city, and some units carry project-based vouchers (voucher tenants pay 30% of adjusted income). These open separately from the big waitlist — specific properties take applications at specific times. FWHS: 817-333-3400, 1407 Texas St, Fort Worth.

2. City of Fort Worth — Community Action Partners (CAP)

CAP helps with rent, mortgage, and utility bills, plus heating and cooling repair — when funding is available. Heads-up on how it works: applications are online on scheduled dates or at in-person events. There are no walk-ins, so call first to get the next date: 817-392-2276.

3. Center for Transforming Lives — the county’s rent & utility help

As of November 2025, Tarrant County’s rent and utility assistance runs through the Center for Transforming Lives — short-term help paying rent and/or utilities for county residents. Call 817-607-8137.

4. Facing eviction right now?

Tarrant County Human Services offers short-term rent help for county residents with low income who have a notice to vacate or an eviction letter. Start at tarrantcounty.com (Human Services) — and if your court date is close, call 2-1-1 the same day and ask for eviction help in Tarrant County.
